Choosing the Right Dry Cleaner for Suede Cleaning and Repair

Professional Suede Cleaner

Luxury and opulence does not always translate into jeweled evening gowns and tuxedos. In fact, season after season, streetwear has influenced many a high-end designer’s line. Of these garments, leather jackets, suede in particular, telegraph to onlookers that the wearer is someone with discriminating taste and, likely, an interesting backstory. No matter what your budget, be it thrift shop, vintage store, artisan or designer, nearly all of us have a cherished suede jacket in our closet. In fact, we cannot wait for the temps to drop so we can take it out and stride down the street with a swagger to our step. Over time, however, due to its nap, suede becomes a magnet for dust, dirt, grime, grease, and more. If you have reached for your moto jacket recently, only to find that the grinder you devoured at the stadium left a splotch on the front, you may be searching for “the best professional suede cleaner near me”. If that or a similar scenario is the case, do not take your jacket to the nearest dry cleaner thinking that all establishments are alike. Instead, bring it to us, Cameo by Copeland Cleaners, or call to arrange the pickup and delivery of your garment. This way, you’ll not only be completely satisfied with the outcome, and enjoy your favorite outerwear all season long.

To begin, suede is not washable in your machine at home. No matter what the tag may tell you, there is no ‘washable suede’ unless it is made from synthetic material such as polyester. For garments made from natural hides such as lamb, kid, or calf leather, the surface has been rubbed to raise the nap which creates that velvety surface we all love. That is not washable, only dry cleanable. When you entrust your suede garment(s) to Cameo by Copeland Cleaners you can expect the following: First, we will assess the entire piece, inside and out, paying particular attention to the leather, looking for rips, tears, stains, and rending seams. If any are found, the best way to remediate will be discussed. Next we examine the findings. These include buttons, snaps, zippers, hooks and eyes, straps, toggles, and other fastenings. If any are missing or damaged or require securing, we perform these tasks before dry cleaning your item. Next we check the lining. What fabric is it made from? Silk? Polyester? Cotton? A blend? Each requires specialized care when cleaning the garment as well. Again, if the lining is stained or torn, its repair must be carried out before cleaning.

Leather dyes and the condition of the leather is another consideration Cameo by Copeland Cleaners undertakes before we clean your suede garment. If the item is vintage and faded, there is nothing we can do to remediate, however if it is stained, we can address what can and cannot be done to resolve the issue. Each garment’s requirements are different, so there is no ‘one process fits all’ procedure that our professionals will follow. Our goal is always the same: to dry clean and restore your garment to optimal condition, as well as to exceed your expectations. If you have concerns, we’ll be glad to address them. Give our experts a call, and together we’ll ensure that your suede garments receives the attention it deserves! Call today!
